# How to Set Up Simple Voice Chat

Simple Voice Chat adds proximity-based voice communication to Minecraft, allowing players to talk to others nearby without relying on an external voice service.

Simple Voice Chat is available as both a mod and a plugin. Download the appropriate version from [CurseForge](https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/simple-voice-chat) or [Modrinth](https://modrinth.com/plugin/simple-voice-chat/versions).

> **Important:** Players must also install the Simple Voice Chat mod on their Minecraft client to use voice communication.

## Forge or Fabric Installation

Use these instructions if your server is running Forge or Fabric.

1. Sign in to the game panel at `gamepanel.fourseasonshosting.com`.
2. Open **Files**.
3. Enter the `mods` directory.
4. Upload the Simple Voice Chat JAR.
5. Start the server once to allow the mod to create its configuration files.
6. Stop the server after it has finished starting.
7. Open the **Network** section.
8. Create an additional **allocation** and copy the port assigned to it. Adding a note can make it easier to identify later.
9. Return to **Files** and locate the voice chat configuration:
   * **Fabric:** `config/voicechat`
   * **Forge:** The server configuration may instead be located at `<your world folder>/serverconfig/voicechat-server.toml`
10. Open `voicechat-server.properties` when using the configuration file in the `config/voicechat` directory.
11. Find the `port=` setting and replace its value with the port from your additional allocation.
12. Save the configuration.
13. Start the server.

Simple Voice Chat should now use the assigned network port.

## Paper or Spigot Installation

If your server uses Paper or Spigot, install Simple Voice Chat as a plugin instead.

1. Open **Files** in the game panel.
2. Navigate to the `plugins` directory.
3. Upload the Simple Voice Chat plugin JAR.
4. Start the server so the plugin can create its configuration files.
5. Stop the server once startup has completed.
6. Open **Network**.
7. Create an additional **allocation** and copy the assigned port.
8. Return to **Files**.
9. Open `plugins/voicechat`.
10. Open `voicechat-server.properties`.
11. Change the `port=` value to the port assigned to the voice chat service.
12. Save the file.
13. Start the server again.

Voice chat should be available once the server has finished starting.

## Using Simple Voice Chat With a Proxy Network

If your Minecraft network uses a proxy with multiple backend servers, each backend server needs its own Simple Voice Chat installation.

Every backend should also have a separate network allocation. Configure the voice chat port in each server's configuration to match its assigned allocation.

Make sure the required network ports are accessible and that your proxy setup does not prevent voice chat traffic from reaching the individual backend servers.
