Normally, Minecraft mods and Bukkit-based plugins are designed for different server platforms. Hybrid server software bridges that gap by allowing certain servers to load both mods and plugins. The best option depends on your Minecraft version and the mod loader you are using. Minecraft Version Mod Loader Hybrid Software 1.7.10 Forge Thermos 1.12.2 Forge Magma or Mohist 1.14+ Forge, NeoForge, or Fabric Arclight Supported versions Forge SpongeForge Note: Magma and Mohist have versions newer than 1.12.2. However, based on our experience, Arclight tends to provide a smoother experience on newer Minecraft versions. Install Hybrid Server Software The general installation process is similar across the available hybrid platforms.
  1. Prepare Your Server Open your server in the game panel at gamepanel.fourseasonshosting.com. Stop the server from the Console page. Create a backup from the Backups page before replacing or modifying your server software.
  2. Download the Appropriate Software
Download the release that matches your Minecraft version from the project’s official repository or download page. Arclight - Use the appropriate release for your Minecraft version. Magma - Use the Releases section. Mohist - Select the Minecraft version you need. Thermos - Download the server JAR and the libraries.zip included with the release. If you are installing Thermos, upload libraries.zip alongside the server JAR and extract it before starting the server.
  1. Upload the Server JAR Open the Files section of the game panel. Upload the hybrid server JAR to the main server directory. Open Startup. Locate Server Jar File (SERVER_JARFILE). Enter the exact filename of the JAR you uploaded. Save the startup configuration.
  2. Start the Server
Start the server and allow the hybrid software to complete its initial setup. After the first successful startup, the server should create the directories required for both mods and plugins. Place: Bukkit, Spigot, or compatible plugins in the plugins directory. Minecraft mods in the mods directory. Restart the server after adding new content. Using SpongeForge SpongeForge works differently from the other hybrid options listed above. SpongeForge is installed as a Forge mod rather than being used as a standalone server JAR. Download the appropriate SpongeForge release from Sponge. Stop your server. Open Files. Upload the SpongeForge JAR into the mods directory. Start the server. SpongeForge will create a plugins directory for Sponge plugins. Sponge plugins are available through the Sponge Ore repository. Important: Sponge plugins are different from Bukkit, Spigot, and Paper plugins. Bukkit-based plugins cannot be installed into a SpongeForge server simply by placing them in its plugins folder. Things to Consider World and Save Compatibility Running mods and plugins together introduces additional compatibility concerns. Certain plugins or mods can modify world data, entities, inventories, or other persistent information. Always create a backup before installing new software or making significant changes to a hybrid server. Switching Server Software Moving an existing server from one platform to another is not always straightforward. Some plugins and mods store data in platform-specific locations or modify your world in ways that may not transfer cleanly. Check the documentation for any major plugin or mod before switching server software. Stability and Compatibility Hybrid servers have more components working together than a standard modded or plugin-based server. Certain combinations of mods and plugins can cause unexpected behavior, crashes, or repeated startup failures. If your server enters a crash loop after installing new content, remove the recently added mods or plugins and test the server again. Add components back individually to identify the source of the conflict.
