Minecraft normally generates terrain as players explore new areas. On larger servers, this can create significant CPU usage and temporary lag when players travel into unexplored regions. Using Chunky, you can generate a selected area ahead of time so the server does not need to generate those chunks while players are exploring. Download the Chunky release that matches your Minecraft version from CurseForge.

Install Chunky

Chunky can be installed as either a mod or a plugin depending on your server software.
  1. Log in to the game panel at gamepanel.fourseasonshosting.com.
  2. Stop your server from the Console page.
  3. Open Files.
  4. Upload the Chunky JAR to the appropriate directory:
    • Forge/Fabric: mods
    • Paper/Spigot: plugins
  5. Start the server.
Once the server finishes starting, Chunky will be available for use.

Pre-Generate an Area

Chunky commands can be executed in-game by an operator or directly from the server Console. When entering commands through the console, do not include the / at the beginning. For additional commands and configuration options, see the Chunky documentation.

Generate a Square Around 0,0

The following commands select a 1,000-block radius around the coordinates 0,0 in the Overworld and begin generation:
This will generate the area within the configured radius.

Generate a Circle Around Spawn in the Nether

To generate a circular area around the Nether spawn location, use:
Chunky will switch the target dimension to the Nether, select a circular shape, configure the radius, and begin generating the chunks.

Performance Considerations

Chunk pre-generation can place a heavy load on your server’s CPU and storage. Larger generation areas can take a considerable amount of time to complete. For the best results, run pre-generation when the server is not being actively used, such as during scheduled maintenance or before launching the server to players. Avoid starting very large generation jobs during peak hours, as they can temporarily increase resource usage and affect players who are online.
