The server’s view distance determines how far players can see around them while playing. Increasing this value allows players to see more of the world at once, but it also requires the server to load and transmit more chunks for each player. If your server is experiencing high resource usage, reducing the view distance can help decrease the amount of work required to generate and send chunks. Minecraft uses a default view distance of 10 chunks. You can change this setting through your server’s server.properties file.

Changing the View Distance

  1. Sign in to the game panel at gamepanel.fourseasonshosting.com.
  2. Stop your Minecraft server from the Console page.
  3. Navigate to Files and locate server.properties in the main server directory.
  4. Open the file and locate the view-distance setting.
  5. Replace the existing value with the number of chunks you would like players to be able to see.
  6. Save the changes.
  7. Start your server again.
Once the server has finished starting, the updated view distance will be applied.
