Managing Your Vintage Story Server Whitelist

A whitelist restricts who can join your server to an approved list of players. On
Vintage Story this is managed entirely with console commands while the server is
running — no restart needed, and the changes persist across reboots.

How to Run These Commands#

FSH Panel Console (recommended): open the Console tab and type the
command without a leading slash, e.g. serverconfig whitelistmode on.
In-game: authenticate as admin (/AdminPassword <password>), then type the
command with a slash, e.g. /serverconfig whitelistmode on.
The examples below use the in-game slash form — just drop the / when using the
panel Console.

Enabling the Whitelist#

/serverconfig whitelistmode on
There are three modes:
ModeMeaning
onWhitelist always enforced
offWhitelist disabled (anyone can join)
defaultOn for dedicated servers (like yours), off for single-player/LAN
Because FSH servers are dedicated, the default mode already enforces the
whitelist. Set it explicitly to on if you want to be certain, or off to open
the server to everyone.

Adding a Player to the Whitelist#

/player <username> whitelist on
Replace <username> with the player's exact name.

Removing a Player from the Whitelist#

/player <username> whitelist off

Disabling the Whitelist#

/serverconfig whitelistmode off

Notes#

No restart required. /serverconfig and /player apply live, and the
setting is saved to serverconfig.json automatically — it stays in effect after
reboots.
Whitelist mode isn't a Startup variable, so the server won't overwrite your
choice on boot — manage it from the Console.
Exact names matter. Whitelist entries are by player name; make sure the
spelling and capitalization match.
