Optimizing Your Hytale Server

If your server is lagging, these are the highest-impact things to check, in order.

1. Right-Size Your Plan (RAM)#

Hytale can run on around 4 GB, but larger or modded worlds need more — for big
servers, 16 GB is a sensible target. If you're regularly hitting memory limits
or running lots of mods, upgrading RAM is the most reliable fix.
The server's max heap is derived from the plan's memory automatically (the egg
sets -Xmx from your allocated memory).

2. Lower the View Radius#

View radius is the biggest single performance lever.
1.
Stop the server.
2.
Open the File Manager and open config.json in the server root.
3.
Lower MaxViewRadius (default 13, range 3–32; try 8–10 if lagging).
4.
Save and start.
See Adjusting the View Radius for details.

3. Keep Mods Lean#

Each mod adds load. Install only what you need, and remove mods you're not using
from the mods folder. There are community performance mods (e.g. Nitrado's
hytale-plugin-performance-saver), but treat them as experimental — they may cause
issues, so test on a backup/instance first and remove them if they misbehave.

4. Restart Periodically#

A scheduled restart clears accumulated memory and keeps long-running servers
healthy. Because Run Downloader is on, a restart also pulls the latest build of
your branch.

Troubleshooting Lag#

Start with view radius — lower MaxViewRadius first; it's the fastest win.
Check RAM headroom — if memory is maxed, upgrade the plan.
Disable mods one at a time (remove from the mods folder) to find a
heavy/broken one.
Read the Console/logs for repeated errors that point at a specific cause.
