Updating Your Hytale Server & Changing the Release Branch

Hytale has two release channels (patchlines): release (stable) and
pre-release (preview/development builds). This guide covers picking a branch
and updating your server on the FSH Panel.
How updating works on FSH: your server has Run Downloader turned on by
default, which means it downloads the latest build of the selected branch
every time it starts
. In other words — restarting the server updates it.
There's no separate "update" button to click.

Match Your Game Client to the Branch#

Your Hytale client and your server should be on the same patchline, or you may
not be able to join.
1.
Open the Hytale launcher and click the Settings button (top-left).
2.
In settings, find the Patchline dropdown and choose release or
pre-release.
3.
Set this to match whatever branch you choose for the server below.

Set the Server's Release Branch#

1.
Log in to the FSH Panel.
2.
Stop the server (power icon → stop) and let it fully power down.
3.
Open the Startup tab on the left.
4.
Find the Patchline / Branch dropdown and choose:
release — stable builds (recommended)
pre-release — preview builds, may be unstable
5.
Continue to updating below.

Update the Server#

Because Run Downloader is on, you simply:
1.
Make sure the server is stopped.
2.
Start the server. On boot it fetches and applies the latest build of the
selected branch, then launches.
That's it — every start pulls the newest build for your chosen branch.
Want to pin a version instead of auto-updating? Turn Run Downloader off
on the Startup tab. The server will then keep its current build and boot faster,
until you turn it back on and restart to update.

Roll-Back Safety (Recommended Before Big Updates)#

Updates can occasionally break worlds or mods. Before updating to a new build —
especially across release/pre-release — give yourself a way back:
Create an Instance (snapshot) of the server, so you can restore it to this
exact state if the update misbehaves, or
Create a backup in the Backup Manager.
Do this while the server is stopped, then start the server to apply the update.
If something goes wrong, restore the Instance/backup.

Troubleshooting#

Server didn't update: Confirm Run Downloader is on, and that you actually
restarted (a running server won't re-download mid-session).
Can't join after switching branches: Your launcher's Patchline must match
the server's branch — set both to the same channel.
Update broke the server: Restore the Instance or backup you made beforehand,
and consider staying on release rather than pre-release.
